Play Dough Portraits < Crafty-Mummy

For our All About Me theme we made play dough portraits. Everyone loves play dough right? You can get so creative with it. We have these play dough mats which I printed out and stuck into plastic folders so they can be reused or printed out for multiple activities. You can also laminate them too.

Making Our Portraits

We put out lots of craft materials to decorate our play dough portraits. The children looked in the mirror to see what colour hair they have and any features that they could add to their portraits. Then the kids went to work. They had fun making their clothes and we put out dry erase markers so they could draw on facial features.

We had implements out such as plastic scissors, rolling pins and play dough tools so they could shape their clothes and hair which was good practice for little hands using fine motor skills. This also took some concentration.

I loved how different they all turned out!

Craft Flowers

You can use anything really. Even things like pasta or craft sticks. The more items you put out the more creative the kids can get. They all turned out so fab! I love how individual they all are! We made an all about me book and put a picture of their play dough creations inside their books so they could look back on it.

Each playdough portrait turned out so different to the next. They were all awesome and the children were so proud of their masterpieces. This activity gives the children freedom of expression.

The kids really enjoyed making these and we sat for at least a half hour so it wasn’t a quick activity lol!
