How many crafts can you do with toilet roll tubes? So so many! There are endless ideas when it comes to TR crafts. Our toilet roll octopus craft is an easy one to do and great if you are working on an ocean theme or octopuses in particular.

For Your Octopus Craft You Will Need;

  • Toilet Roll Tube(s)
  • Hot Glue/Regular Glue
  • Paints (acrylic, poster..)
  • Cotton Wool/Pom Poms
  • Scissors
  • Googly Eyes
  • Markers
Empty toilet paper rolls

You can also use a kitchen roll tube if you’re less inclined to want to use a toilet roll tube. Works the same way, just cut it in half so it’s the same size as a TR tube.

Put hot glue around the inside rim of the tube.
Take some cotton wool or a large Pom Pom and stick it to the rim.
Push the cotton wool in so that the glue holds it around the rim.

Don’t worry if the cotton wool sticks out a little on top. This just gives character to the octopus once it is painted.

Paint the tube all over including the top where the cotton wool is. It is easier to pat the paint onto the cotton wool so that the brush doesn’t start to drag stray pieces of wool. Then set it to dry.

Transforming into an Octopus

Once your tube is dry, you can start to make it into your octopus. Depending on the age of the child they may need help with the next step but most pre-schoolers should be able to do it with guidance.

Cut slits halfway up the tube all the way around.
Fold the slits upwards so they open out.
Push your tube down so that the slits open. These are the arms!

Lastly add googly eyes and have your child draw on a mouth.

A cute little octopus craft that is simple and easy to do. Just one idea of how to use those toilet roll tubes.
