With Valentines day right around the corner you might be looking for some crafts to do in the classroom. Marbles are fun to work with and can inspire kids in all kinds of activities. They are also a great sensory tool to use. These marble art hearts are fun to do. And look spectacular when they are done.

This activity will help kids with fine motor skills. It will also help with concentration. And with a few items this is an easy activity that kids will love to create.

All You Need Is;

  • Some paint (any paint will do)
  • Some marbles
  • A tray with rounded edges
  • Some paper
  • Scissors
  • Heart Template
  • Coloured card (optional)

Marble Fun!

You can use as many marbles as you want to do these. Also any size will do. You are basically using the marbles to roll in the paint so the more the better I say.

Marbles are easy to find in shops and are rarely expensive. We purchased these from our local dollar friendly store and they came in bags.

They tend to come in different sizes too.

Getting Started

Before getting started with your marble art hearts, you will need a heart shape. Drawing your heart shape freehand is one option. However if you aren’t great at drawing them, we have a FREE printable download below that will make your life a little easier lol.

Then go ahead and cut out your heart.

Pick out whatever colours you want your heart to be. Make blobs of paint around the tray for the marbles to roll in. The blobs don’t have to be huge. It will help the marble to roll a little easier if you use plenty in smaller amounts.

Choose as many marbles as you want to roll into the paint. Then tipping the tray slightly to the left then the right, the marbles will gradually drag the paint across the tray. If the marbles are not spreading the paint as much as you’d like, try shaking the tray from side to side in quick motion, being careful not to lose any marbles over the side of the tray.

Once the tray is covered with different colours, grab your heart shape template. Lay the heart flat onto the tray and press around edges to cover the entire heart.

Carefully peel back the heart lifting it from the tray. If you still have white areas, go ahead and press it back down to make sure you cover all spots.

It is really cool to see all the colours blend into each other. We went a little crazy and wanted to do more hearts with different colours.

Different Designs

Each individual heart turned out very different as we all used different colours. My son went for a fiery red and orange heart, whilst my daughter picked out pinks and purples for her heart. We also tried a rainbow coloured heart.

Displaying Your Art

Once the hearts are dry you can mount them onto coloured card to make them stand out and put them on display. This is optional but it does look awesome and will keep the hearts from getting torn or wrinkled up when storing.

Choose a colour of card that will go well with the heart and stick down using glue. Use a black marker to draw around the heart. This will also make your heart pop and stand out on the card. You can also write a Valentines message. This is a nice touch if your heart is for a loved one.

Our Valentine marble art hearts turned out so vibrant and pretty. An easy craft to do which kids will enjoy doing any time of year. You can also just use a regular sheet of paper if you don’t want to do hearts.
