Spider Supplies
For your spiders all you need is;
- Bottle Tops (any size)
- Paint (poster paint works well)
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes
- Something sharp (cutting tool)

If you can find bottle tops that are already black then that’s fantastic and will save you having to paint them and wait for them to dry! However most bottle tops are indeed NOT black. Of course you can always have different coloured spiders too 😉
Top Tip!

I will give you a tip on the paint that we used. We painted our bottle tops with acrylic paint the first time and it really didn’t take to the plastic very well. It kept peeling off when we were piercing the holes into it.
So we then tried poster paint and found that worked much better!
Once your bottle tops are painted, set them aside to dry. They will need a good amount of time and will need to be completely dry before you start trying to add the legs.

To do the legs, an adult will need to be on hand. Especially when making holes. Make sure to have a sharp tool that will pierce through plastic. A crafting knife like the one above works well but you can also use a regular knife. Children should be able to thread their pipe cleaners through the holes if they are visible enough.

Once you have your legs onto your spider, you just have to add eyes. You can give your spider as many eyes as you want. We had adhesive stick on eyes but you can always just use glue to apply them.

You can find some great books about spiders. Here are some that we have at home and we would recommend.
Even when it’s not Halloween, spiders are a great thing to learn about. How about going outside in your own back yard and trying to find a spider. Watch it spin a web! Learn about why spiders are important to have around.
