Kids love to make anything they can wear. Well my kids do lol! We made these fingerprint necklaces once before and they were a big hit.

If you have the right sort of pendants they can turn out super nice and even be nice as gifts, to be put on a keyring. Some craft stores carry pendants in the DIY jewelry section.

These necklaces are just as cute to make and easy enough to do.

To make these necklaces you need;

  • Craft see through gems
  • Label tags
  • Ink pad
  • Hot glue
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon/Lace/Yarn

Using the Ink Pad

Have your child press their finger into the ink pad making sure to move their finger back and forth to get better coverage.

Darker colours work well!

The kids can do whatever designs they want for their necklaces. We chose bugs and a sunshine but you can do whatever you can make your fingerprints into. You can really get creative with these.

Add detail

Because the craft see through gems are smaller they might not cover the fingerprint. Depending on how big the fingerprints are of course. Thats why little fingers are better for this craft. 😉

Detail can be added to the fingerprint, such as legs. However these might not show up once the gem is placed onto the fingerprint. My kids were okay with that though. You can always dismiss the gems too and make the fingerprints without them.

The gems are easy to put on with hot glue. This part will need adult supervision. They only take about 5 seconds to set.

Detail can be added around the rest of the tag using markers. You can even write little messages on the back of the tags or your name.

Finally take your tag and cut the string off. Then you can add pretty coloured ribbon, lace or yarn for your necklace.

Necklaces are done!

And that’s it! Fingerprint necklaces done. They really don’t take long to make and kids can wear them right away as the glue sticks pretty quick. The fingerprints just make these necklaces a little more personal and are nice to keep and look back at in years to come.
