When children are starting school it is vital that they know how to hold scissors. Cutting is one skill that pre-school children often learn before heading to ‘big’ school. This twirly snake cutting craft is fun to do!

Most children will pick it up pretty quickly with a little help. Its always good to have child friendly scissors out so they can practice.

This simple little cutting craft also involves colouring which most children enjoy doing.

All you need for this craft are;

  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Googly eyes (optional)
  • Snake template

Colouring

The colouring part comes first as it is easier for kids to do beforehand. Kids can design their snake however they wish. My daughter got tired of doing stripes. I suggested she do different patterns on it instead, which she found easier.

Cutting Out Your Twirly Snake Pattern

The centre part of the snake pattern doesn’t really need to be coloured. I coloured the centre part but then my son pointed out that you don’t really need that part. Unless you wanted to use it to hang your snake of course!

Smaller children may need help getting started but they should be able to do it alone once they get going. Just be sure they watch their little fingers! ✂️

Attaching Snake Details

Once your snake is cut out, stick on googly eyes to the top part where you started to cut.

This part is optional of course. My 10 year old decided to colour and make his own eyes on his snake.

Cut out the tongue attached to the template sheet & stick under the snakes ‘chin’.
