Teaching kids about Remembrance Day and what it stands for is important. My kids and I always try to do crafts or work sheets to learn about why we commemorate it once a year. This remembrance day art activity is a nice way to pay your respects.
Here are a few ideas if you are looking to get your kids involved in learning about Remembrance Day. ❤️
Remembrance Day Rocks
If you are into Rock Painting you will love these poppy painted rocks. Very simple to do and children love to show them off as a mark of respect on November 11th. Because rocks are usually left outside the paint will often wash off. Resulting in your child’s ‘art’ being erased. So we coated our rocks with a little mod podge to keep them water resistant.

Writing Messages
You can write little messages on the back of the rocks. Because my son had been reading lots about WW1 & WW2 he knows what happened and what they sacrificed for us.

Paying Respects
Once your rocks are painted, take them to your local memorial site. This seems to be the trend the last couple of years and people worldwide are doing the same. It’s nice to see other rocks left there when you pass by again.

And other people followed the trend and left rocks too.

Learning Some History
This is just one way to do your part with the kids on Remembrance Day. There are lots of ways to get your children learning about the past and making history fun. Although Remembrance Day is a day of sorrow for those who lost their lives, it’s good to teach children about what life was like back then. How people struggled and how fortunate we are to have what we have now.
You can download our FREE printable worksheets that are great for homeschooling. Children can do a little research and then answer some questions. Check out our Questionnaire and Word Search.

More Remembrance Day Activities..
- And you can always use role play as a tool to teach children about the way life was during the war. Perhaps have a home corner and act out what meal times were like back then.
- Talk to them about how children didn’t have much food back then and why people had to ration.
- You can also teach your kids a little geography! Have them research countries that went to war and find out more about them. What language do they speak and what their flags look like. Here is a project my kids and I done during lockdown. They found it really interesting! https://crafty-mummy.com/test-title/
