Halloween is a fun time of year for kids, especially decorating those pumpkins. My kids and I love trying to come up with different ideas each year! This rainbow pumpkin is definitely a favourite!
This is a fun idea that we saw online & HAD to try it out. Have to admit my son & I were a bit sceptical when trying it and didn’t think it would work. But we loved the results. My 4 year old son (at the time) got so excited!
We recommend using a white pumpkin if you can find one, as it shows up the colours better. I guess a regular orange pumpkin would work too though.
All you need is;
- A Pumpkin
- Lots of crayons (paper ripped off)
- School glue
- A Hairdryer
- A sheet or plastic lid to catch splatters.
Strip all the paper from your crayons so they are bare. Sit your pumpkin onto a sheet or a plastic lid. This will catch any splatters that your melted crayons make. Glue your crayons over the top of your pumpkin going all the way around. Then switch on the hairdryer & watch the crayons start to melt.
You can put whatever colours you want on it but we wanted all the colours we had and it made it like a rainbow.
The crayons take a few minutes to melt so you do have to be patient but once you see them melting you’ll want to keep going!
The colours were so pretty when they melted into each other. The great thing about melted crayons is that they won’t wash off when caught in the rain so we were able to leave our pumpkin out on display for trick or treaters to see.
