This is a fun craft Ive done before with the kids when I worked in the nurseries. It’s a simple little craft that even little kids can do. These little pots of gold will be adorable on display in the classroom. I would suggest using a smock however as the dot markers we use are a little messy and can stain clothes, you have been WARNED!! 😉 You can also use paints of course!
These are the ones we use. You can get them from any craft store, and toy stores usually have them in the craft section. Great for all kinds of activities!
These are the ones we have but they come in many colours!
Supplies You Will Need;
- White & Black paper/card stock
- Glue
- Scissors
- Dot Markers/Paint
- Shiny Gold Wrappers or paper
We used some gold wrappers from chocolate coins. These are perfect for ‘treasure’ in our pot of gold 🌈
Have your child cut around a bowl shape to make a circle. Then cut out the circle and snip the top part of the circle so you have the shape of a pot. You can do this part if your child is a little too small for scissors. My 4 year old managed to cut out but wanted my help with drawing the bowl shape. Then she glued her black pot shape onto the white paper.
When making your rainbow use the dot markers to smear a line of each colour coming out of the rainbow. They can do their rainbow in any order they please. E wanted to make her rainbow arched shape like a rainbow you would see in the sky.
I love how she has her own unique style of doing things when we do crafts and doesn’t want it exactly like everyone else’s, that’s my girl lol!
Adding Treasure To Your Pot
Place the coins or your gold paper at the top of the pot, or at the bottom of the pot, wherever your child wants to put them. We also added some stickers to our pot. We didn’t have any St.Patricks stickers around this time however they do make a cute finishing touch but we found a couple of rainbow stickers and my daughter found some unicorns and that worked for her. 🌈🦄☘️
Our pots of gold turned out cute and its one to add to the craft folder!
And if your kids love rainbows and you are looking for more St Patricks day inspiration, check out these rainbow activities. Some great sensory activities. You can throw in some gold coins and shamrocks to add to the St Patricks day fun!
