What better way to use those potato head pieces on a snowy day. Create some potato snow people. The kids had a blast doing these and they turned out super cute!
I thought I had given our potato heads away so that younger children would get the benefit of using them. My two seem to have outgrown them.
Then I remembered that we still had them boxed up in the shed. Was pretty happy that I had held onto them. I can be a bit of a hoarder at times but this time I did good LOL!
Upcycling Toys
These potato snow people are fun and comical to make. And if you can re-use your kids toys for multiple activities it’s a win win. We were looking for inspiration whilst playing out in the snow. Rather than just building a snowman, we wanted to do something a little different.
Our potato snow people kept my kids busy for ages, and they were fun to do. All you need are some Mr or Mrs. potato head pieces. You can sometimes get lucky and pick these up at a second hand store. As I mentioned kids tend to grow out of these kinds of toys. So they are usually easy to find without spending a ton of money.
The snow you use when doing these has to be just right. You will need packing snow but the temperature has to be perfect in order for your potato snow people to stay together. I won’t lie, my kids did get a little frustrated when the pieces wouldn’t stay in.
However they did persevere and their snow creations did look awesome. The kids wanted to decorate their snow people once they were built so we used our ‘snow paint’ to make them colourful.
For snow paint all you need is some water and food colour, and some squirty bottles.

Making Your Masterpiece!
We had eye pieces and different mouths. Even arms and feet that the kids could add to their potato snow people. I loved this activity as it got my kids using their imagination. Not to mention it kept them outside in the fresh air.
Children can make their snow characters as silly or whacky as they like. You can even create a regular snowman and use these pieces.Be sure to take lots of pictures of their creations once they are done. This way they can look back on what they made once the snow melts.
