These cute Pom Pom coasters are fun to make and a lovely little gift for family or friends over the holidays. Bright and colourful, these little things can be addictive to make lol!

To Make These Coasters

A few items you need for are;

  • Small Pom Poms
  • Some Cork Sheets
  • Coloured Felt Sheets
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Something Circular
  • A Marker
  • Scissors

These Pom Pom coasters can be used as decorative gifts. They are more fiddly to make than a lot of other crafts that my kids and I have done. However for older kids this is a good project. The hot glue can get pretty HOT so smaller children will need help with this.

Making Your Coasters

Start by drawing a circle shape onto the cork. It doesnt have to be a huge circle but big enough to sit a cup on. Using a decent pair of scissors for the cork helps.

Apply a dab of hot glue at the edge of the circle and start to place your Pom Poms all the way round the circle. It’s easier to start from the outside and work your way to the middle. Going on experience, dotting them wherever makes it more difficult when filling gaps.

Hold Pom Pom for 2-3 seconds onto glue!

Work your way into the middle using alternate colours. You can do different shades of the same colour or a pattern of 2 or 3 different colours.

Applying The Felt

The felt is designed to tidy up your Pom Pom coaster around the edge. It just gives it a nice finish. Line up your coaster side on to see how thick your felt piece will need to be. Don’t worry if it is too wide, it can always be trimmed once it’s stuck on.

Carefully apply hot glue along the side of the coaster, slowly laying the felt across the glue. Tip- Hot glue dries very quickly so it is better to do bit by bit, rather than gluing all around the edge in one go!

It’s highly likely that you would end up having to apply more by the time you get all the way round. So doing it this way avoids having to pull off any excess hot glue.

The Pom Poms will still be visible when you look at it side on.

You can really get creative when making these. How about a themed coaster using colours pertaining to that theme. Such as green for Christmas and St Patricks day, or red and pink for Valentines day! Or you can do someones favourite colour in different shades.

There are lots of alternatives to make them look different and to each individual taste. They turn out so bright and fun looking when finished. Like I said they can be pretty addictive to make once you start making them. Gifts for everyone at Christmas!

Have fun crafting!!
