Endless Ideas
We have tried lots of different recipes for sensory play. Whether it be play-dough, sand or slime, it’s always a big hit with the kids.
This one was new to us and we had to give it a try. Two simple ingredients and you have Moon Sand!!
All you need is;
- 2 Cups of Corn Starch
- 1 Cup of Hair Conditioner
- Food Colouring (optional)
You will also need;
- A Bowl
- Measuring Cup
- A Fork
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until it’s all combined. It will start to come together like a dough.
We added some drops of colour to the dough but it didn’t take until we started to play with it.
I was amazed at how soft this stuff was! Even more so than play-dough. Sometimes with play-dough you have to tweak it and have to add more flour. But this dough was so pliable and soft.
It also smells amazing!! The hair conditioner just gave it such a lovely smell. It doesn’t have to be any special conditioner. Our’s was fruity so the scent of the moon sand was so good. Just make sure your kids don’t eat it as it does smell good enough to eat!
It feels slightly different to play-dough. However you can still mold it, roll it, slice it, stretch it, use it for imprints.
Sensory play is also a good tool for learning letter and number recognition. My son joined in playing with the moon sand and practiced his fractions with it.
And if you and the kids are learning about the moon. Check out this cute little song about the moon to add to your theme. 🌙
