Doesn’t it drive you nuts when you have a mountain of leaves in your garden come autumn time? It is pretty to see all those lovely colours but my does it take some work clearing them all up before winter hits! I use it to my advantage when it comes to crafting πŸ˜† These leaf animals are a great little craft to do with kids in the fall.

Going On A Leaf Hunt

My kids and I are always trying to find new and fun uses for those fallen leaves. When my son was little we used to go out collecting them for crafts. It was a perfect opportunity to make leaf animals with them.

If you have LOTS of leaves and are trying to think of ideas, here is one of our personal favourites.

First have your child go on a ‘leaf hunt’ collecting lots of different coloured and shaped leaves. We used my parents back garden as they always have plenty with having lots of trees around lol! If you don’t have many trees then you can always go the woods or a nearby park to find some.

Before You Start Your Pictures

Before you start making your leaf animals have your child lay all their leaves out on the table. You will need paper (any colour) and glue for this activity. I also got some little scissors and some markers out.

As we had decided to make animals with our leaves we cut out beaks and legs etc. We also had googly eyes on hand too. Kids can make their leaves into whatever their hearts desire!

This activity encourages your child to get that little bit creative. It gives children practise with fine motor skills, cutting and drawing or writing. We had talked about different animals that you might see out in the wild. This gave my son the idea of making birds. We also made a turtle and a fox.

Our leaf animals turned out really cute, and it was a fun activity to do with my son. We will definitely be putting these in our art scrapbooks for safe keeping. πŸπŸŒΏπŸ‚
