Whats it like being a British mum living in Canada? What brought me here? How is life different here to back home?
I guess you could say that fate brought me here, but in a good way. After growing up in England and moving around with my dads job which finally took us to Scotland, I ended up travelling after finishing college. I worked as a nanny and worked for some wonderful families, whom I am so grateful to be still in touch with. My parents moved to Florida and then onto Canada. At this time my husband and I were back in Scotland and I missed them so much. Our son was born in 2011 and we felt we should be closer to my parents so they could see their grandson grow. It wasn’t an easy task getting our visa, a very long process in fact but finally in 2017 we got our permanent residence and we were able to call this beautiful country ‘home’.

Life in Canada is great especially being close to my parents. Our daughter was born here so we now have Canadian roots lol!
I would say its a much slower pace than back home in the UK. Making friends seemed easier with having my son and meeting other mums. Of course there is always that culture difference even if it is a slight one. But Ive met some truly wonderful people here whom I can call friends forever.
🙂
I can’t lie I do miss home sometimes and wish it were closer so that I could visit my brother who lives in Scotland with his lovely wife and son. But thank goodness for FaceTime and texting. It may seem silly but I miss the little things about home like going for a pub lunch on a Sunday or shopping in the malls there. We do have British tv here though so I can keep in the loop with what’s going on lol!
Winters are brutal here but summers make up for it so I can’t complain too much. Im just happy that in the crazy world that we are living in right now, we all have our health and each other <3
