It’s all about allowing children to explore and be creative. Play dough is a great opportunity for creativity and it can be a very relaxing activity for kids. Some don’t like crafts as much so play dough can be a great alternative.

Providing items from your craft drawers can give kids inspiration on how to make their spooky halloween creations. I often like to use halloween theme colours for this activity such as orange, black, purple and green. But honestly any colour will do!

What To Make

We made different halloween play dough characters and used things like pipe cleaners for legs and buttons for eyes etc. Because this a play based activity, it allows children to use whatever materials they have in front of them to create with.

Of course there are endless ideas when it comes to play dough fun. As well as making 3D spiders and pumpkins, why not roll out the play dough and make flat objects. It can often be tricky sometimes getting eyes and buttons to stay put when things are 3D.

Anything can be used when playing with play dough. Give kids some craft items and some utensils and their creativity will shine through. Play dough has many benefits for children.

As well as being fun;

  • Play dough is calming for children.
  • It is good for hand-eye coordination.
  • Children are invited to socialize and interact with other children.
  • Play dough encourages creativity in children.
  • It can help develop their fine motor skills.
  • Helps to support literacy & numeracy for younger children.
