So we made glow in the dark slime. And thought why not try out some art! We had purchased some glow in the dark paint and had never really worked with it before. I can tell you it was so fun. This glow in the dark art was a good way of making secret coding. Because you can’t really see the paint as you are painting it onto white paper, its awesome to see it actually glow once the lights are out.

Glow in the Dark Paint

For this activity all you need other than a paintbrush and some paper is;

  • Some glow in the dark paint
  • A flashlight/torch

I have only ever been able to get a small bottle of the paint from our local craft store. But you can also purchase pots of it online. Check out the link below! ⬇️

I will mention that you don’t need a lot of paint to do your art, but making sure you cover your drawing or writing well is important. You will see why when you have shined your light onto it and see it in the dark.

Experimenting With Secret Art

There are lots of ways you can do secret art. Whether you use white crayon, invisible markers or other art supplies. This glow in the dark paint works the same way, except you are using light to reveal your secret art. Its pretty cool for kids that enjoy sensory activities.

The kids started out by painting their pictures with the paint and writing their secret art. You can write secret messages or paint something and have your friends or family guess what you are painting. Doing it on white paper is better to start with but if the kids want to see their art as they are painting you can also use black paper.

The glow in the dark paint will show up on black paper so the kids will see what they are painting.

Shining A Light

Once the kids have done their glow in the dark art, it is time to charge your art. Grab a flash light or torch and have the kids shine it onto their art work. As I mentioned before make sure your art has plenty of coverage so that it will show up good.

The kids loved their art show up once the lights went out. We were so surprised to see it actually work. And you can keep charging it again and again. Once our art was left to dry we ‘charged’ it up again and it still worked.

It was so cool to see spots of glow in the dark paint all over the table lol! Even the glue pot and bottle lit up!

Once we saw how effective the glow in the dark paint was, we decided to try doing some hand prints. My daughter was desperate to get her hands into it. We done the hand prints the same way as you would do any hand print. E painted her hand and pressed it down onto some white paper. We then shone our flash light onto her hand print and turned off the light. So fun!

Paint hand
Press hand onto paper
Switch light off and see the magic

If your kids love glow in the dark paint, why not try out this glow in the dark slime. Cool sensory fun activity!
