Craft sticks or popsicle sticks. Whatever you like to call them, they are so fun for crafts! These creepy craft stick characters are a cute halloween craft to make. You can make one or all of them. They make a good bookmark or even just a halloween buddy to decorate.
To make your halloween characters you will need;
- Some craft/popsicle sticks
- Paint (optional)
- Googly Eyes
- Yarn
- Markers
- Red Card
These are the craft sticks that we used. You can also purchase the plain wooden popsicle sticks which will work just the same.
Start by painting or colouring some of your sticks. The ghost, mummy, vampire & spider will need to be painted. And depending on if you have orange sticks or not you may need to paint your pumpkin. Because we had most of the coloured sticks, we got away with only adding detail to some of our creepy craft stick characters.
Vampire/Dracula
To make your vampire you will need to paint half your stick black and the other half pale orange/peach. But you can also have his face white if you prefer. Because after all he is a vampire lol 😜
Once your vampire is dry, go ahead and start to add detail.
Mummies
To make the mummies, you will need some white yarn. Wrap the yarn around your white stick until you are satisfied that you have enough. But be sure to leave a small section to draw the mummies mouth and stick some eyes on. My daughter drew her mouth and stuck her eyes on before she started wrapping her mummy. 🙂
Frankenstein
If you already have coloured sticks you shouldn’t need to paint your Frankenstein character. So you would just add details to him!
Halloween Spiders!
As an addition to your creepy craft stick characters you can make spiders you will need some smaller craft stick for the legs. But of course your spider doesn’t have to have legs and you can always use pipe cleaners as an alternative.
These miniature craft sticks worked well as legs!
Monsters
To make the monsters you can use whatever you have to create details. For instance you can draw stripes on them like my daughter or cover them in spots. Your monster can have 1 eye or lots of eyes lol! You get the idea 🙂

For the ghost and the pumpkin you just need to add details. As with the other halloween characters, googly eyes are great for these guys. Cut out some green card for your pumpkin stalk. Because these characters are so easy to do, kids can make them however they want. They can look scary or not so scary. Totally up to them!
And if your kids are Halloween crazy like mine lol, check out these books. Halloween doesn’t have to be scary, and of course most preschoolers enjoy the dressing up part and getting into character themselves. These books create inspiration also.
