You can do tons of different things with clothes pegs.. and crafting especially!! I think even as a child I used to steal my mums clothes pegs from the washing line so I could draw faces on them and use them in my games lol! These clothes peg fairies are such a cute craft to do and a huge hit with kids.

With a bunch of craft items you can easily turn clothes pegs into dolls. My daughter wanted to make hers into fairies so we just added wings and hey presto. We had clothes peg fairies.

Our Supplies

For our clothes peg dolls we had the following items;

  • Clothes Pegs
  • Yarn/Wool
  • Feathers
  • Pom Poms
  • Butterfly Clips
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun
  • Googly Eyes (optional)
  • Markers (optional)

Most of these items are very easy to pick up at a craft store and reasonably priced. The butterfly clips cost just over a dollar and I just happen to see them when we were talking about doing fairies so they worked out perfect for our wings!!

Butterfly Clips

These butterfly clips have a foam body and glue on pretty easy to the back of the pegs.

The clips had to come off as I couldn’t get them to stay on properly.

Luckily they do glue easily with just the foam back.

We managed to get 4 different colours too, hence why my daughter decided she wanted to do more when she saw how cute they turned out 🙂

Because my daughter is still a little young to use the glue gun unsupervised I stuck any pieces on that she wanted. The yarn was pretty easy to wrap around and she drew the face on her fairies. You can use googly eyes but E decided she just wanted to draw them on. She also drew on the clothes for one of her fairies.

The yarn was pretty easy to wrap. We thought we would have to glue it to the peg but it stayed on well and when you are done you just tie a knot in it to hold it in place.

For the hair we coloured the top of the head and then used a small pom pom for a ‘bun’ in the fairies hair.

We added feathers and fake flowers for the fairies skirts/dresses…

The great thing about these dolls is that you can make them all unique. My daughter gave them all names too 🙂

A Craft That Provides Play

Young children do need a little supervision if using hot glue and scissors. But this is a simple little craft that the kids will love to do. I will also mention that E played with these dolls the whole day after making them. She even wanted to take them to bed but we set up a bed for them beside her which was a good compromise 😆

“Martha, Rosy, Twinkle & Ginger” 🥰

We did this over 2 separate days as we found more pegs and E wanted to do more 😍
