We love decorating eggs at easter time. Its definitely one of our favourite time for crafting! A great technique for dying eggs is using food colouring. Lets face it, food colours will stain pretty much anything they get on 🙄 which is why they are good for dying eggs. I would highly recommend doing these with protective wear like aprons and gloves.
Boil your eggs (preferably white shelled eggs if you can get them as they take the colours the best) and set them aside to cool down.
When they are cool, wrap your egg(s) in a paper towel or a coffee filter and secure with a rubber band. You egg will be left to dry like this so it has to be secured. As shown in the picture.

Next let your kids pick out which colours they want their eggs to be. The colours will all mix in to each other and the paper towel will look really dark but don’t worry the eggs won’t be that dark. Spray the eggs with water just to make sure the food colour sticks to the paper towel.

We left our eggs in a dry place overnight. They turn out so pretty!

You can leave your eggs on display like this once they are done but my kids had easter face stickers that they wanted to use on their eggs. It just made their eggs look even more individual and fun. These are stickers that I found at our local dollar store.

The eggs looked so pretty underneath their shells too. Almost too pretty to eat. 😉

When we unwrapped our eggs after they dried, the paper towel/coffee filter was like tie dye! They were too pretty to throw out so we put them on display on our window for everyone to see. Then we put them into our craft album for keepsake. This was a great way to decorate our eggs. It is messy but definitely worth it to see the pretty results.
